Surprise Water Damage in Winter
1/4/2021 (Permalink)
Winters in Michigan can be brutal and many in the area like to vacation to warm weather or even fly south for the whole winter. If you fit into this category, it is very important to make sure your Mid-Michigan home is ready to withstand the weather you are leaving behind.
-You should make sure your furnace is in good working order before you leave. Have it inspected by a professional and change the filters
-Make sure you shut off the water to the house- if for some reason the furnace fails, your pipes could freeze and burst. The water being off will prevent water from continuously running and damaging your home until you return.
-Have your home winterized. You can do this yourself or hire a plumber. If there is no water in the pipes to freeze, they wont freeze and burst.
-If you are going to be gone for an extended period of time ask a friend or family member to check on your home frequently while you are gone. This way you can catch and potential problems.
