While many of us in Michigan use our basements daily, some of us never go down there at all. Whether it's a Michigan basement that just holds a furnace or a fully finished basement that just doesn't get utilized anymore, all basements are susceptible to water damage and mold.
Sometimes when a water damage happens the homeowner may not be aware. This can happen from being on vacation or just not going downstairs often. A water damage that isn't cleaned up and dried out properly can lead to the perfect conditions for mold to grow.
- It is important to check basements regularly
- Check all of your basement appliances to make sure they are functioning properly and have no cracks or leaks. i.e. Sump pump, hot water heater, water softener, etc.
- Keep stacked contents away from walls.
